The church of the Disciplines or Oratory of the Dead, recognized as a national monument, was built between the end of the 14th and the start of the 15th century. After the big flood of 1471, the survivors decided to bury the dead where now is the churchyard of the parish. The church was annexed to the cemetery, as a chapel or as its entrance. Over the centuries it was transformed into a lazar house, all the frescoes were whitewashed, and it underwent remarkable transformations, with the opening of doors and windows which damaged the ancient paintings. In 1962, a restoration by the Superintendence brought about the recovery of the original frescoes. The pictorial cycle displayed inside is one of the most important and complex ones from the mid 15th century: in the middle of the cross vault stands out the big mandorla with Christ Almighty sitting and blessing, encircled by groups of Apostles, Evangelists, Fathers of the church, Deacons and Popes; on the other half of the vault instead there is a figure of the Madonna who opens the cloak of Mercy and welcomes the kneeling believers. On the south wall, the large and complex scene of the Crucifixion, later than the other paintings and maybe attributable to an author from the Pietro da Cemmo group, has been damaged in the centre for the opening of a window and it is probably superimposed to another one, more ancient and partly visible.
