Edolo Power generation plant and pumping
Location

The Edolo hydroelectric plant is one of the most important modern hydroelectric power plants in Europe. With its modern pumping system was one of the stations that have permission to restart the country after the disastrous blackout that struck Italy in 2003. The power station pumping Edolo Avio, is one of the leading facilities of its kind in Italy, with a total capacity of 1,000 MW and annual energy output of over 900 GWh.
It is possible to visit the Edolo power plant thanks to an agreement between the Directorate General of National Electricity Authority (ENEL) and Cooperative Inexodus of Sonico. The visit allows you to access the peculiar structure of the complex that extends entirely from the cave under the mountain which is accessed through a 1 km long tunnel. The activity of the plant is divided into two main phases: the phase of producing electricity during the day and the stage of pumping the water used to bring it back to the original place of origin, during the night. But there is another aspect that makes this fascinating visit, and it is very interesting that the union is created between between the technical and the beautiful natural landscapes typical of the High Camonica Valley.
The visit to the facility consists of following a route that reconstructs the process of generating electricity and the approach to the tools and processes is facilitated by means of visual communication.
The service to visit is completely free
