Giovetto Woods Natural Park
Location

The Giovetto Woods Natural Park of Paline, above Borno and Azzone, extends for 650 hectares between 1000 and 1950 metres of elevation, on the southern rise of the Pizzo Camino massif which divides Valle di Scalve from Valle Camonica. It is composed mostly of resinous high forest trees, spaced out by grass clearings and pastures, and it is characterized by the presence of numerous vegetal and animal species. Worth pointing out is the rufa lugubris ant, a valuable insect which favours the keeping and the health of the woods, protecting the trees from the damaging effect of some parasites, among which the procession moth. The area has always been exceptionally rich with big ant’s nests, and as this is a strong predator of other insects, it contributes to keeping in good state of health the woods where it lives.
