Characteristics: historical–cultural, scenic– naturalistic

The route goes deeply into the Sun Plateau and concerns the municipalities of Borno, Ossimo and Lozio.
The purely naturalistic route, perfect for those who love trekking or mountain bike, lets you meander in a natural context of great charm. The itinerary, which winds mostly among the ancient ways that link the three towns, starts in the Borno Municipality, a renowned ski resort and reaches the small town of Ossimo, where, thanks to the “Ethnographic Museum Ossimo Yesterday”, old-time traditions and knowhow are handed down. Going through the important Asinino-Anvòia archaeological area, where you can get in touch with the fascinating world of rock art, you reach Lozio, an ideal destination for all those who want to spend some time close to nature and in full tranquillity

Starting from the Borno “skating”, endowed with plenty of parking space for cars and busses, you start a pleasant walk in the centre of the tourist resort, known and appreciated for its 20 km of ski runs deep in the woods of conifers with invaluable alpine views. After a brief visit to the Church of the Madonna of Lourdes, dating back to the 17th century and dedicated to the Saints Vito and Modesto, the walk in the pedestrian area allows you to run into the remains of the Barète and Pagà towers reminiscent of the medieval past of the place. A few steps take you to Umberto I Square where the stately St. Giovanni Battista and Martino Parish Church rise near the 17th-century Fountain made of Sarnico stone.
A little away, Villa Guidetti deserves a visit. A valuable villa from the early 20th century, it is surrounded by two wonderful parks where some remarkable century-old plants are preserved.

Leaving Borno’s historic centre, follow for a few metres the Provincial Road 5 to the beginning of Don Moreschi Street, a slightly uphill road which gives you in a few steps a wonderful scenery over the Val Grigna mountains among which stand out St. Glisente and the Summits of Crocedomini Pass. The dirt road, easily doable and in close touch with nature, allows the visitor to take some rest stops thanks to the numerous benches located along the way, which offer a breath-taking view over the valley and some glimpses at the small town of upper Ossimo. A little away, even if not directly along the itinerary, worth a visit are the Parish Church of the Saints Gervasio and Protasio and the nearby Ethnographic Museum Ossimo Yesterday, open in 1995 with the purpose to hand down the material culture made of finds, work tools and typical objects which were used for ancient trades. The small Municipality over the years has become well-known for the “Sagra del Porsèl” (Pig’s Festifal), an important display conceived with the intent of enhancing the traditional production of salami. Back to the itinerary, follow the signs to Località Pat, particularly interesting for the presence of the Asinino-Anvòia Archaeological Park, which allows you to deepen the subject of megalithic shrines from the Copper Age (3rd millennium b.c.e.) thanks to the presence of numerous cult areas with alignments of stele stones and boulders, around which ceremonies and rites took place. Not far from the Archaeological park, you can’t but notice a field cultivated with care and attention with an apple orchard, whose fruits are marketed by the Camunian fruit farmers Cooperative, working to protect the originality and the typicality of these products

Still deep in nature, at the foot of the Borsato quarry run from the early ‘50s and flanking the district kennels, you reach the suburb Villa di Lozio, which together with Laveno, Sucinva and Sommaprada make up the small municipality of Lozio. The Valley of Lozio catches the eye, with its important mining centre of “veined black marble” from the past, while the imposing Mt. Concarena massif stands out. Between its buttresses the little church of St. Cristina is scenically nestled, where according to popular lore St. Cristina spent her time praying, doing penance and communicating by lighting a fire with her brothers, St. Glisente and St. Fermo, hermits on the summits above Berzo Inferiore and Borno. From here started the well-known “St. Fermo
torchlight procession" which every 8 August takes place in Borno. Worth noticing, even if away from the route, is the Nobili Castle, built about the end of 1200 by the important Nobili family. The Castle was repaired in the years 1998-1999, which allowed to redefine the castle’s plan. From Lozio it is possible, along the intermunicipal Lozio-Ossimo road, to cross first Resù in the Villa di Lozio area, then Creelone in the Ossimo area, to go back to the starting point in Borno.
